Heat Transfer and Pressure Drop Performance of Offset Strip Fin with Gap between Adjacent Rows
Abstract
The off-set strip fins (OSF) have been widely used to construct plate-fin heat exchangers. Conventional OSFs are constructed in successive rows of fins. New OSF structure is suggested to have a gap between adjacent row of fins. The gap is intended to reduce fouling by allowing small particles objects flow through fins. Results show that the performance of OSF with gap can't be predicted by previous correlation. New OSF correlations are suggested for OSF with gap using CFD analysis. New OSF correlations are developed in terms of f and j factors. They have a new geometric non-dimensional factor ‘?’, which relates gap and fin pitch. New correlations for f and j are in agreement with CFD data within ± 20% and ± 15%.
