EXPERIMENTS OF QUENCHING UNDER PRESSURES
Abstract
The quenching temperatures of solids with different surface and base materials were investigated for pressure range 0.03 to 1.3 MPa, with water as the coolant. The relevant nucleation processes during intimate liquid-solid contacts in film boiling are analyzed, and the effects of the thermal properties of the base materials are shown to be of primary importance when preferred site nucleation is the only relevant mechanism for establishing a vapor phase in these contacts.
