HEAT, MASS ÐND MOMENTUM TRANSFER CHARACTERISTICS OF AN AIR COOLING AND DEHUMIDIFYING COIL
Abstract
This paper presents a study of heat, mass and momentum transfer characteristics of a cooling and dehumidifying coil used in air conditioning practice. Experiments were conducted in a closed circuit air conditioning tunnel in which the velocity, temperature and humidity of air approaching the test section could be varied. The evaporator of a window air conditioner was used as the test section. The performance characteristics of the coil are presented in dimensionless from relating the heat and mass transfer j-factors and Euler's loss coefficient to the Reynolds number and the sensible to latent heat ratio. A correlation is also presented for the overall coil efficiency.
