Resumo

An experimental method is described for determining the interface conductance between two plates during transient heat transfer. The technique is based on heating one plate in about 100 µsec with a capacitor-bank discharge and then recording the contacting-surface temperatures of the two slabs as they come to equilibrium. Results are presented for combinations of: (1) aluminum and stainless steel with contact-surface finishes of 5-5 µin. AA (arithmetic average), 12-30 AA, 15-38 AA, and 50-35 AA; and (2) stainless steel and ceramic with contact-surface finishes of 31-38 AA, and 64-38 AA. The pressure was varied from 100 to 2000 psi. For metallic contacts the conductance increased about 200% with time. The reverse behavior occurred with the metal-ceramic contacts.
