FUNDAMENTALS OF FLOW AND HEAT TRANSFER IN ROTATING POROUS MEDIA
Abstract
Flow and heat transfer in rotating porous media is investigated focusing on free convection resulting from the centrifugal body force, the Coriolis effect on the resulting flow and on the flow in a heterogeneous porous matrix. The isothermal Darcy flow in homogeneous porous media is irrotational thus leaving no case for study. However, as soon as non-isothermal conditions or medium heterogeneity are introduced the effects of rotation become evident and significant. The equations governing the flow and heat transfer in rotating porous media are developed and the significance of rotation is analyzed. A few examples of analytical solutions to related problems are presented.
