THE MEASUREMENT OF FLUID FLOW AND HEAT TRANSFER IN AN EVAPORATING MENISCUS
Abstract
The interference fringes formed in a stable evaporating meniscus were photographed at magnifications of 280x and 700x for various heat flux levels. A significant change in the meniscus profile resulted from a change in the heat flux level. The curvatures, fluid flow rates, pressure gradients, and heat flux levels were calculated. The results demonstrate that fluid flow in an evaporating meniscus results from a change in the meniscus profile which depends on the heat flux distribution.
