HEAT TRANSFER IN AN ANNULUS WITH SPIRAL FLOWS
Abstract
Experimental results on diabatic flow in an annulus with axial flow and inner cylinder rotation are presented.
The outer cylinder was stationary and insulated. The results obtained show decrease of Nusselt number with the
increase of Reynolds number in the laminar spiral flow regime. The results obtained over a Reynolds number range
of about 300 to 2000 and Taylor numbers upto 3.5 × 105 are compared with the theoretical predictions and are found to match well. Correlations for Nusselt numbers in terms of σ, the ratio of Taylor to critical Taylor number are presented. These correlations substantiates the use of a rather than Taylor number alone in the evaluation of Nusselt numbers in spiral flows.
