TWO-PHASE FLOW PRESSURE DROPS ACROSS SUDDEN AREA CONTRACTIONS PRESSURE AND VOID FRACTION PROFILES
Abstract
The behaviour of air-water mixtures flowing through abrupt area contractions was analyzed. Data were obtained on the axial pressure distribution, on the global void fraction and on the local void fraction profiles in several cross-sections spaced along the test section both upstream and downstream of the singularity. According to widely used flow maps the flow conditions examined may be classified into bubbly flow regime and transition to slug flow regime. The experimental results were compared with the predictions of various flow models. Void fraction profiles and their axial development were discussed with reference to the information available in the technical literature.
