HEAT TRANSFER AND PRESSURE DROP MEASUREMENTS IN COOLING CHANNELS WITH HELIUM AT A PRESSURE OF 20 BAR AND WITH WALL TEMPERATURES UP TO 1000 °C
Abstract
In a closed, high-temperature gas loop 4 cooling channels were tested. Channels Nos. 1, 2, and 3 were of circular cross section, Nos.l and 2 with an internal diameter of 1.2
cm and length 4 m, No.3 with 1.7 cm diameter and length 3.1 m. Channel No.4, with a length of 1.7 m, had a flow cross section of trefoil shape. The Reynolds Number ranged
from 2000 to 70000. The ratio of absolute temperature of the heated surface to gas bulk temperature was varied from 1.1 to 1.6.160 runs were performed. In the data analyses
comparisons were made with empirical equations for local heat transfer and pressure drop.
