NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF ICE CRYSTAL MELTING ALONG STRAIGHT LINE
Аннотация
Ice accretion in turbofan engine has occurred in certain atmospheric conditions. Ice crystals are ingested into turbofan engine and travel through the compressor with the increase of static temperature of flow. Ice crystals melt and accrete on the surface of stators in the low pressure compressor. A numerical simulation approach is presented to simulate ice crystal melting along straight line. The simulation consists of two parts. One part is the simulation of heat and mass transfer of supercooled ice crystal. Sublimation of ice crystal is
simulated by mass transfer. The other is the simulation of heat and mass transfer of ice water mixture. Melting of ice crystal and evaporation of liquid water on the surface of the ice crystal are considered. Newton's law is applied to calculate the velocity of ice crystal along the straight line. Under different hot airflow conditions and parameters of ice crystal, the velocity, temperature, radius of ice crystal and ice
crystal melt ratio along straight line are calculated. The simulation method can be applied to assess the risk of ice accretion due to ice crystal ingestion in turbofan engine.
