ENHANCED FORCED CONVECTION FROM A TUBE IMBEDDED IN A METAL FOAM
Аннотация
Forced convection heat transfer coefficients on a cylinder surrounded by open cell metal foam in cross flow have been measured for Reynolds number from 200 to 1000 based on cylinder diameter. The metal foam is made of aluminum rated at 20 pores per inch, with a relative density of seven percent. The cylinder and foam fill the cross section of a low speed wind tunnel, and the cylinder is operated at a constant wall heat flux. The thickness of the foam in the direction of flow is twice the cylinder diameter. Local and average Nusselt numbers are determined from measurements of surface and free stream temperatures, and overall friction factors are determined from blower power and volumetric flow rate. Nusselt numbers exhibit approximately an order of magnitude increase over those for bare tubes.
