PERIODIC HEAT CONDUCTION IN A TWO PHASE, TWO DIMENSIONAL SOLID DOMAIN

Periodic heat conduction in a two phase, two dimensional case was examined experimentally and numerically. The model consisted of aluminum bars dispersed in a continuous domain of foamed polyurethane. A unit square wave in flux was applied at the input face, while the output face was held at a constant temperature. Phase angles measured at various points in the model were compared with phase angles calculated using the finite element formulation of the variational principle.
