A cooling coil of an air conditioning system has been analyzed by calculations and by electrical analogue models. Time constants were calculated for both a dry and a wet coil. Values between 4 and 6 seconds were found. The agreement with the experimental time constants was satisfactory. The frequency response of the analogue models deviates from the response predicted theoretically at high frequencies because of lumping of the thermal capacity of the water. The responses can then be characterized by systems of the orders 0, 1 and 2.
In the calculations for the wet coil a temperature range of 10 – 22°C for the air and the cooler has been assumed and a linear relationship between the air temperature and the water saturation curve has been used.
