NUCLEATION PROM A MERCURY SURFACE
Resumo
An investigation has been made on nucleation of water and alcohol from a smooth quiscent horizontal mercury surface, by fast cinecamera. Two thousand bubbles were followed and bubble diameter at the departure, as well as life time of bubbles on the heating surface, were measured. The results were dimensionlessly represented.
In the region of convective boiling, the bubble diameter decreased slightly with increasing heat flux, while in nucleate region the bubble diameter increased with increasing heat flux. The mean life time of the bubbles remained constant throughout both boiling regions.
