STAGNATION POINT OSCILLATION AND STABILITY OF FORCED CONVECTION FILM BOILING ON A SPHERE IMMERSED IN (a) A SUB-COOLED OR (b) A SUPERHEATED LIQUID
Resumo
When film boiling is unstable, both small disturbances to the thickness of the vapour layer and oscillation of the liquid-vapour interface, result in the momentary collapse of the vapour layer. The thickness of this layer in forced convection around a moving sphere depends on the temperature of the hot surface, the velocity and diameter of the particle, the saturation temperature (or pressure) of the liquid and the liquid sub-cooling (or superheat).
The paper presents a theoretical analysis of the stability of the vapour layer at the stagnation point in forced convection.
