PHOTON UPCONVERSION BASED ON MOLECULAR SCALE ENERGY AND MASS TRANSFER: MATERIALS DEVELOPMENT, MICROSCOPIC KINETICS, AND PHOTOPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
要約
Photon upconversion (UC) conducts conversion of low energy photons that are presently wasted in broad photoenergy conversion systems to usable higher energy photons. Thus, UC provides a fundamental solution to increase the efficiencies of broad photoenergy conversion systems. Recently, a method of UC, called TTA-UC, that uses excited triplet states of organic molecules and intermolecular energy transfers between them has
emerged. TTA-UC is presently the only method applicable to weak and non-coherent light such as sunlight. Although the research area of TTA-UC has grown in a past decade, TTA-UC still suffers from either the high cost or insufficient stability/safety of materials used; resolutions of these problems are required for application. To resolve these problems, our research group has been conducting studies on this technological subject from the
various aspects including materials developments, microscopic kinetics, and photophysical properties. In this paper, achievements thus far obtained by our group are presented. Several important or unique properties of the developed samples are also presented.
