要約

The present work presents an investigation into the effect of vane swirlers and sudden enlargements on the heat transfer rate in turbulent pipe flows. A solution procedure that solved the governing conservation equations is utilized to arrive at the heat transfer characteristics. The procedure was complemented by once using the mixing length hypothesis, and then again by using a two-equation turbulence model that solves for the kinetic energy of turbulence and its dissipation rate. The calculated results, using the two-equation turbulence model, were compared against available measurements. This comparison gave sufficient evidence that such a procedure can be of invaluable assistance to the designer in attaining an enhancement of the heat transfer rate that leads in turn to a reduction in the dimensions of heat exchangers.
