要約

An analytical and experimental study has been performed on three-dimensional natural convection in a porous medium enclosed with an inclined annular space heated from the inner cylinder surface only. In the analysis, for simplicity, Darcy's law and Boussinesq's approximation are assumed to be applicable, and viscous drag and inertia terms are neglected in comparison with the other terms. Governing equations are numerically solved by means of the S.O.R. method. Numerical calculation have been carried out for ranges of RaDa from 50 to 500 and δ from 0° to 90°, using the grid points of 21×37×61. Distributions of velocity, streak line, temperature and Nusselt number are obtained. Results show that in case of an inclined arrangement traces of streak line draw a three-dimensionally closed curve what is called "co-axial double helix", while in the horizontal case the flow configuration reduces to a two-dimensional convection roll, and the secondary cellular flow is found at the upper part of the annulus for RaDa=500 and δ=15°. Temperature distributions obtained experimentally agree approximately with the numerical results and support the validity of the three-dimensional numerical analysis.
