A study of temperature measurements in situ within the soil in a dry region is presented. The results obtained are compared to the numerical results based on the calculation of soil thermal diffusivity utilizing the analytical approach of the solution of Fourier equation. Considering that the observed and computed temperature profiles are in good concordance, the numerical model can be used to predict heat transfer by conduction in dry soils. Heat flux is determined from temperature gradients computed by a cubic spline approximation.
