HEAT TRANSFER AND FLOW PREDICTIONS IN A ROTATING SQUARE DUCT WITH CORIOLIS-MODIFIED TURBULENCE MODELS
Résumé
A two equation turbulence model has been used to
predict heat transfer in a rotating square channel. The duct
considered is smooth and the flow is radially outward. The
predictions of local heat transfer for the leading and the
trailing sides compare satisfactorily with the experimental data.
Test cases with different Reynolds numbers and rotation
numbers are considered. The expanded momentum equations
include the Coriolis forces and the centrifugal buoyancy force. Standard and modified k-ε model predictions are presented. The empirical modifications for the Coriolis effect on the k and ε transport equations showed better agreement with the experimental data.
