NATURAL CONVECTION HEAT TRANSFER IN INCLINED ENCLOSURES WITH/WITHOUT PARTITIONS
Résumé
Natural convection in inclined enclosures with/without multiple partitions has been experimentally studied for Rayleigh numbers in the range 106−108. A thin partition with a high conductivity was employed. The partitions were placed parallel to the heat transfer surfaces. For heat transfer correlations with/without partitions the scaling of g·cos δ is found to be good at 0 ≤ δ ≤ 60 deg., where δ is the angle of inclination from the horizontal. Near the vertical, the scaling of g·sin δ works well at 75 ≤ δ ≤ 90 deg. The angle for transition from 3-dimensional turbulent flow to 2-dimensional laminar boundary layer flow is about 60-75 deg. in this experimental range. Furthermore, the thermal insulation capability of the partitions used here was compared with that of other procedures. It is shown that the present procedure is superior to the others.
