A Direct Numerical Simulation for Influence of Roughness on Near-Field Radiative Heat Transfer Between Two Films
Sinopsis
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the surface roughness influence on near-field thermal radiation between two thin films of the same material. Direct numerical simulation based on Wiener Chaos Expansion (WCE) method is conducted to simulate the electromagnetic fields induced by the thermal induced current source and to obtain the spectral dimensionless heat flux. The simulation reveals that the rough surface of film enhances the near-field heat flux between the films. Larger roughness coefficient leads to more spectral radiative heat flux exchange and the excited heat flux peak moves towards low frequency range. And when the distance between the films decreases, the spatial dispersion effect is enhanced and more evanescent wave is coupled. It will give us a guidance to control the near-field radiative heat transfer by properly designing the roughness of the surface
