NUMERICAL COMPUTATION FOR NATURAL CONVECTION SUPPRESSED MAGNETICALLY IN A CUBE HEATED FROM THE SIDE AND PLACED IN THE HORIZONTAL BORE OF A SUPER-CONDUCTING MAGNET
Sinopsis
Natural convection of paramagnetic fluid in a cubic enclosure heated from one vertical side wall and cooled from the opposing wall is studied when this enclosure is placed just at the opening of a bore of a horizontally oriented super-conducting magnet at 10 [T] at the solenoid centre. The cold wall is close to the magnet centre. Such a configuration is numerically solved with the magnetic force in the momentum equation. Computational conditions are taken from the accompanying experimental observations with thermo-chromic liquid crystal slurry dissolved. The computed isotherms agree very well with the experimental observations for Ra=9.6×104 - 14.8×104 and magnetic induction 0-1.3 [T] at the enclosure centre.
