HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER IN DIRECT CONDENSATION OF STEAM ON A SUBCOOLED TURBULENT WATER JET
Sinopsis
The steady state condensation in direct contact between steam and a cylindrical vertical turbulent water jet has been investigated both experimentally and theoretically. The jet temperature increase has been measured for inlet temperatures ranging from 20 to 90 °C, flow rates from
0.005 to 0.028 kg/s, steam pressure from 0.15 to 0.4
MPa; the effect of the nozzle diameter (0.001 and 0.0019 m) has also been studied while the length of the jet is 0.31 m. The results indicate the "thermal efficiency" of the condensation process increases with the pressure and does not depend significantly on the inlet temperature and flow rate;it increases as the nozzle diameter decreases. The ratio of the steam condensation rate to the jet flow rate decreases with the inlet jet temperature, increases with the pressure, and seems independent of the flow rate; it can be expressed as a function of the thermal efficiency
and the Kutateladze number.
