Bubble dynamics and acoustic phenomena in subcooled pool boiling
Sinopsis
The interdependence of heat transfer, bubble dynamics and transient pressure in the liquid is investigated
experimentally with special focus on differences between primary and secondary boiling. Temperature fluctuations, heat transfer data, characteristic pressure-time signals, time-averaged and short-time spectra of the noise are measured in subcooled boiling of water at subatmospheric pressure on a vertical copper heating surface. With primary boiling heat transfer is shown to decrease with subcooling but is enhanced in secondary boiling occurring at low pressure and high subcooling and the boiling curves shape changes accordingly. In frequency spectra of the noise bubble parameters can be found. Therefore, frequency
spectra are suitable to identify the boiling mode.
