INFLUENCE OF AN UNHEATED STARTING LENGTH ON HEAT TRANSFER IN A TRANSPIRED TURBULENT BOUNDARY LAYER
Sinopsis
An experimental investigation of the influence of an unheated, solid starting length on heat transfer in a uniformly blown turbulent boundary layer on a flat plate was carried out. It was concluded that the effect is significant in a region less than twice the starting length. Further the correction formula of Seban, previously validated for the zero blowing case, gives an inaccurate prediction of heat transfer when applied to transpired boundary layers. An approximate analysis is presented in this paper that showed good qualitative agreement with the experimental data. The analysis was carried out for several step Reynolds numbers. The present results are also compared with those of Whitten et al., where applicable and good agreement was found.
