A HEAT TRANSFER ANALYSIS OF SOLIDIFICATION OF PURE METALS IN CONTINUOUS CASTING PROCESSES
Sinopsis
An analysis of the heat transfer with solidification in continuous casting processes using pure metals is presented; the governing equations are solved by a non-linear numerical method. The solution expresses the temperature field and freezing front location
in terms of three parameters: non-dimensional feed temperature, Biot number, and non-dimensional casting velocity. Their effects on process performance are shown. The solution is compared to experiments and to previous simplified analyses.
