THE DEVELOPMENT OF ROUGH SURFACES VITH IMPROVED HEAT TRANSFER PERFORMANCE AND A STUDY OF THE MECHANISMS INVOLVED.
Sinopsis
The heat transfer and pressure drop performance of three basic types of rough surface has been investigated. The results are presented in terms of Stanton number, friction factor, and thermal performance. To discover the reasons for the differences in performance, large scale models have been employed. Distributions of heat transfer coefficient have been obtained using a mass transfer analogy technique and flow patterns have been analysed, both visually and photographically. Finally, using the measured heat transfer coefficients, surface temperature distributions have been derived. The results of these investigations have led to a better understanding of the basic mechanisms involved in rough surface heat transfer.
