AN INFRARED SCANNING TECHNIQUE FOR DETERMINATION OF THERMAL CONTACT CONDUCTANCE OF MAGNETIC SUBSTANCES
Abstract
An infrared scanning technique for determining thermal contact conductance of magnetic materials with various surface finishes at about 11 Kn/m2 is presented. Test specimens consist of galvanized steel plates with Alnico V magnets attached to the back center of the plate. An infrared camera was used to observe isotherm motions which were coordinated with a numerical solution of the heat transfer problem to determine the contact conductance. The results show good agreement with the theory based on surface deformation studies for contacts of rough surfaces.
