THERMAL CONVECTION WITH SPATIALLY PERIODIC NONUNIFORM HEATING: NONRESONANT WAVELENGTH EXCITATION
Abstract
The problem of the onset of thermal convections in a fluid layer heated from below is considered when the temperatures of the walls vary spatially in the form of a sine wave. The wavelength of the modulation is different from the critical wavelength. The modulation is found to be stabilizing in general, although certain choices of the modulation wavelength require a special analysis.
