FORCED FLOW FILM BOILING FROM A CYLINDER IN THE CRITICAL REGION
Abstract
Experiments have been conducted with forced flow boiling heat transfer from a small cylinder in CO2 near the thermodynamic critical point. Flow visualization techniques were used to isolate effects of free stream velocity and bulk conditions on heat transfer rates and flow patterns. Results indicate that in the critical region heat transfer rates increase with increasing velocity and system pressure. Correlation of data in the critical region is impeded by extremely varying fluid properties. Nevertheless, a correlation based on Bromley's earlier work at moderate pressures has been successfully extended into the critical region.
