CORRECTING FOR THE VARIABILITY OF THE HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT IN EXTENDED SURFACE ANALYSIS
Abstract
The heat transfer coefficient along the faces of extended surface is usually treated as constant in evaluating the heat exchanger performance measures, although there are numerical methods to accommodate variation and analytic results are known in special cases. This paper develops a perturbational approach to account for the variability. It also addresses the question as to the appropriate kind of average value to be used in practice, when employing a formalism premised on the assumption that the heat transfer coefficient is constant.
