AN INTERFEROMETRIC INVESTIGATION OF CONVECTIVE HEAT TRANSFER IN A HORIZONTAL FLUID CYLINDER WITH WALL TEMPERATURE INCREASING AT A UNIFORM RATE
摘要
Natural convection in a fluid contained 1n a long horizontal tube, the wall of which is maintained at a uniform temperature which changes at a steady rate, was investigated experimentally. The ends of the tube were closed with glass windows to allow observation and measurements with an optical interferometer. The temperature field and local heat transfer coefficients could be obtained in this way and were compared with average beat transfer coefficients obtained by, conventional methods. A range of Rayleigh numbers from 3 × 103 to 107 was covered, using two test sections and two fluids, water and ethylene glycol. The flow field was made visible by the tellurium dye method in additional experiments.
