EFFECTS OF SOLID OPTICAL PARAMETERS ON HEAT AND LIGHT TRANSFER PROCESS OF MULTI-LAYER GLAZED ROOF FILLED WITH PCM

Phase change material (PCM) applied in the multi-layer glazed roof can cut down energy consumption and
increase thermal comfort by improving its thermal storage capacity. In present work, a numerical model was
developed to provide a tool to simulate the heat and light transfer process in a multi-layer glazed roof filled
with phase change material for developing engineering analyses. The effects of refractive index and
extinction coefficients of PCM in solid state on heat and light transfer of the glazed roof were investigated,
which is on the basis of model validation. The convection process of air layer was considered and the
temperature difference of interior surface and the upper surface of air layer was calculated. The results show
that the refractive index and extinction coefficients of PCM in solid state have both effects on the heat and
light transfer process of the glazed roof. The solid extinction coefficients have the opposite effect with the
refractive index on the interior temperature. Due to the convection process of air layer, the effects of the two
PCM optical parameters in solid state on the temperature difference and total transmitted energy are
different.
