PRESSURE DROP FOR THREE-DIMENSIONAL RECTANGULAR MICROCHANNELS

This paper focuses on the entrance region of rectangular microchannels and the pressure drop is investigated against aspect ratios of cross section theoretically and numerically. A more accurate model which can be used to calculate resistance loss is proposed based on research work. The apparent friction factor and Reynolds number product ƒappRe are analyzed as a function of a non-dimensional axial distance and aspect ratios. And the novel values ƒappRe is verified with proposed model and previous experimental results. The aspect ratio varied from 0.1 to 1 is investigated and the maximum relative error is less than 3.9%. According to the novel values ƒappRe, we obtain a new fourth-order fitting equation for the Hagenbach's factor of rectangular microchannels, which is more effective to improve the accuracy in different aspect ratios. From the accurate and reliable data, it is shown that the model and the values of ƒappRe can be used as reference to calculate pressure drop in developing laminar flow for researchers and engineering applications.
