Аннотация

Most heat transfer analyses in transitional flow regime were conducted within horizontal tubes with limited information on inclined tubes. Recent studies on transitional flow regime focused on the effect heating, inlet geometries and free convection on the heat transfer and pressure drop within horizontal tubes without inclined tubes. The purpose of the present work is to experimentally investigate the effect of tube inclination and buoyancy on the fully developed heat transfer characteristics of transitional flow regime. An experimental set-up designed to accommodate different inclinations of the test section was built and validated against the literature. A smooth circular tube with inner diameter of 5.1 mm and a length of 4.52 m was used as the test section and orientated at different inclination angles from horizontal flow (0°) to vertically upward flow (90°) direction. For all the inclination angles, the local heat transfer measurements were taken at a constant heat flux of 6 kW/m2, using water as working fluid with Reynolds numbers ranging from 1 000 to 6 000. It was found that, as the inclination angles were increased from horizontal to vertical upward flow, the start of transition was delayed, and the transition gradients increased.
