Dynamic and Thermal Characteristics of the Mixing of Two Separated Flows with Different Scales
Аннотация
The paper presents the results of an experimental study of the passive method for controlling turbulent separated flow and heat transfer. The method is based on the use of an additional flow-intensifying element, namely, transverse mini rib with much smaller geometric scale of main obstacle. The flows around a backward-facing step and an extended transverse cavity with different inclinations of the front and rear wall were considered. In fact, the matter is about the features of two various scale separated flows interaction. PIV measurements showed that the vortex layer from miniobstacle falls in the separation region behind the
step, leads to significantly changes in the velocity fields and turbulent pulsations and shifts the attachment
point of the shear layer. Both behind the step and in the cavity, presence of a mini turbulator causes changes
in redistributions of heat transfer and pressure coefficients. At certain ratios of small obstacle height and its distance to the main obstacle, there is intensification of rarefaction and heat transfer in the separation region.
