Аннотация

The main objective of the present work is to experimentally investigate the direct contact condensation heat transfer of steam in a stratified flow with smooth and wavy interfaces, thus to extend the previous work of Chu et al. (2000) that investigated the heat transfer only for the smooth interface condition. The results of the steam-water stratified smooth and wavy flows are presented and compared in order to show how differences in the heat transfer characteristics depend on the interface condition. A total of 174 average interfacial condensation heat transfer coefficients for a smooth interface and 105 local interfacial condensation heat transfer coefficients for a wavy interface have been obtained. The parametric effects of steam and water flow rates and the degree of subcooling on condensation heat transfer were also examined. Two empirical Nusselt number correlations, one for a smooth and the other for a wavy interface region, were developed on the basis of the bulk flow properties.
