Аннотация

This paper presents a comprehensive account of the linear instability of Darcy-Boussinesq convection in a uniform, unstably stratified porous layer at arbitrary inclinations, α, from the horizontal. A full numerical solution of the linearised disturbance equations is presented which extends previous work on this topic. The detailed graphical results are used to motivate various asymptotic analyses. The location of turning points in the neutral curves in the limit α→ 0 is obtained in the large wavenumber limit. A detailed asymptotic analysis is undertaken which shows that instability arises only when α ≤ 31.30° if the Rayleigh number is asymptotically large. However, the maximum inclination below which instability may be expected is 31.49°, and this corresponds to a critical Rayleigh number of 104.30.
