Flow and heat transfer in enclosed rotor-stator systems
Аннотация
An elliptic finite-volume solver has been used, together with a low-Reynolds-number k-ε turbulence model, to solve the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations, for the flow and heat transfer in enclosed rotor-stator systems. The computed velocity profiles are in mainly very good agreement with LDA measurements, and the computed Nusselt numbers are in reasonable agreement with previously reported measurements for rotational Reynolds numbers of ReΦ = 2 × 106 . The computations suggest that some of the influences attributed by other research workers to axial spacing between the rotating and stationary discs and to buoyancy effects may be caused by the definition of the Nusselt numbers used in their experiments.
