EXPERIMENTAL AND ANALYTICAL STUDIES OF FLUID FLOW AND HEAT TRANSFER ACROSS CORRUGATED-UNDULATED HEAT EXCHANGER SURFACES

A parallel experimental and numerical study of heat transfer and fluid flow across a corrugated-undulated (CU) surface, representative of a rotary air preheater element, is described. Experimental values of both local and average Nusseft numbers were obtained by "True colour" image processing of a thermochromic liquid crystal (TLC) surface coating. Numerical predictions were obtained by use of the Harwell-FLOW3D finite-volume computer code. Good agreement has been obtained between measurements and computer simulations.
