Аннотация

Thermochromic liquid crystals have in recent years been widely used in surface temperature measurement. A calibration procedure incorporated into a software package based on true-colour image processing techniques has been developed. The hue values at specific pixel locations of a liquid crystal colour display along the heat conducting surface can be captured by this calibration program whilst the local steady-state surface temperatures, measured and monitored by the embedded thermocouples, can be entered manually. Thus, the linearity of the temperature gradient along the heat conducting surface will no longer be required when using the present method. The difficulty in maintaining the linear relationship during changing ambient conditions can thus be overcome. The effect of lens apertures (f-stops) on the temperature calibration of a particular type of liquid crystals (R29C2W) in terms of the hue values has been investigated.
