Evaporation heat transfer of saturated' falling film on a vertical array of horizontal tubes was studied through analysis and experiment. For laminar flow, a model comprised of the developing, the transitional, and the developed region was proposed. For turbulent flow an eddy viscosity model was used to arrive at a closed-form solution. Experiments were preformed on a vertical row of horizontal tubes, 25mm diameter and 50mm vertical pitch, with saturated fill at pressures 0.1 and 0.2 MPa in the range of film Reynolds number 10 to 2000. Influences of liquid feeding system and method , and effect of dummy tubes were also investigated. The data were then compared with existing correlations in the literature and with the present analytical results. An empirical correlation is developed.
