Аннотация

The problem of pattern formation during a phase change is reexamined using a fully time-dependent analysis. A new class of exact asymptotic solutions are obtained for the Stefan problem with undercooling in the zero surface tension limit in a bounded spherical shell. The effect of the finite domain is discussed with application to undercooling experiments. It is shown that the influence of a wall at a finite distance can significantly modify the asymptotic behavior of the relevant parameters. A fully time-dependent axisymmetric numerical code with arbitrary surface tension is successfully compared to the analytical and other results. An example of dendritic growth from an initially perturbed sphere is shown.
