Аннотация

Experimental measurements of the critical heat flux over a horizontal cylinder of a large diameter (25.4 mm) in a cross flow are presented in this paper. The liquid flowed perpendicular to the heater and to the earth gravity. Two pure liquids and one of their binary mixtures were used. The parameters examined were the undisturbed liquid velocity and the liquid subcooling. It was found that the critical heat flux decreases with the undisturbed liquid velocity to a minimum at a liquid velocity of about 0.25 m/s, then it increases up to the maximum examined liquid velocity. The critical heat flux increases almost linearly with the liquid subcooling. A theoretical model has been presented to predict the undisturbed liquid velocity at which the critical heat flux is a minimum. The agreement between theory and experiment is satisfactory.
