Аннотация

In this paper are presented the results of theoretical modeling of a shell-tube PCM sotrage unit in which the phase change material is placed in the shell while the working fluid flow in the tubes which are arranged in a triangular form. The phase change material used is parrafin and the working fluid is water. The analysis is based on solving the phase change problem around circular tubes when the process is dominated by conduction. The solution of the energy equation in the enthalpic form is performed numerically using control volume technique. The coupling of the above problem with the flow problem is achieved by performing a heat balance on a fluid element inside the tube and hence obtain the fluid bulk temperature as function of time and position along the tube. The numerical results show the effect of Biot number, ratio of diameters and inlet fluid temperature on the solidified mass, the effectiveness and NTU. These charts are valuable in the analysis and design of PCM storage system of the shell-tube type.
