Аннотация

A numerical method is presented for computing the freeze over of an amorphous thermoplastic material during the filling in an open ended rectangular shaped cavity. The model is based on the equations of continuity, motion, energy and appropriate boundary conditions. Convective transport of heat, transient effects, viscous heating, solidification at the cooled walls and the non-Newtonian character of the melt are taken into account. When the maximum machine pressure has been reached, the pressure remains constant and the flow rate decreases rapidly. At a certain instant the cavity freezes over and the liquid flow will stop. As the calculation is built up of a number of time steps, at any instant and at any place the temperature, velocity, velocity gradient, pressure and pressure gradient can be determined. Finally information about the total flow length can be obtained.
