Аннотация

Thermal energy storage (TES) systems have found application from solar-heated housing to space-based heat exchangers. The research addresses the key issue of void distribution and its effect on the heat storage and discharge in an encapsulated phase change material integrated into a solar heat receiver that undergoes sun/shade cycle. Experiments were performed and the void-formation phenomena with rectangular flat plate, tubular, spherical, and torus shape capsules were investigated. The initial void growth, distribution and the total void in the capsule were photographically studied from transparent capsules using cyclohexane, hexadecane, butanedoil and octadecane as PCM materials. Heat transfer considerations based on present study are presented.
