Аннотация

The results of a photographic analysis of the macroscopic mechanics of dropwise condensation of water vapor are reported. High speed 16 mm motion pictures were used to record the events on a vertical teflon surface upon which water vapor was condensing. The heat transfer conditions were monitored and recorded for each filming. Drop growth rate was measured as a function of both time and the temperature gradient between the vapor and the condenser surface. Condenser surface subcooling is shown to have a substantial effect on the time required for a drop to reach rolloff dimensions. The condensor surface subcooling ranged from 1.0 degrees Fahrenheit to 3.4 degrees Fahrenheit.
