Аннотация

Arrays of heat exchanger bundles often have the heat exchanging surface arranged in a series of "Vees". Prediction of pressure losses in such cases being uncertain, a test programme measured the losses in a substantially two-dimensional model of a heat exchanger. Tests on the Lummus Isothermal Tunnel at Oxford University, showed higher pressure losses than those associated with the mean velocity head of the air leaving the "Vee". A method of prediction of losses, based on empirical grounds, is given. These are considered to be generally applicable to all coolers with the same matrix frictional resistance to airflow as the model tested. Some measurements of pressure and flow in the region of the bundles were made; these however, are insufficient to develop a theory accounting for the flow pattern generated by the inclined bundle; hence no theoretical prediction of the pressure losses is developed. The effect of variation of apex angle on the performance of a typical heat exchanger design is presented.
